Update on the status of the Coro redevelopment project

Update on the status of the Coro redevelopment project

We have reached an important stage in the exciting plans to redevelop the Coro.

The final funding bid was submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) on Thursday 26 February – it can be viewed by clicking the link below. A huge amount of work went into preparing the bid, working alongside the community and cultural organisations. We are confident it makes the best possible case for the NLHF grant – which if successful could amount to almost £6 million being spent on the Coro redevelopment.

Other exciting news is the appointment of Bennetts Associates, the architects who will be responsible for developing the future vision for the Coro. Bennetts have considerable experience redeveloping arts venues, such as the Storyhouse in Chester,  and we were hugely impressed with their enthusiasm for the project.

They are currently drafting concept designs for how the building could look, of course taking on board all the feedback from the extensive public engagement work we carried out while compiling the bid. We will engage further with the community and stakeholders as this progresses.

We expect to hear the outcome of the bid from NLHF at the end of June and the Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet will make a decision about how the project goes forward when they meet in September.

As ever, we will endeavour to keep you updated in as timely a manner as possible, where we can.
