NEXT STAGE IN CORO DEVELOPMENT
Opportunity to secure funding for more ambitious plans!
The next stage in developing the The Coro is about to be launched.
In September 2024, the Council’s Cabinet made the decision to permanently re-locate the Ulverston Library in The Coro.
As part of the decision in September 2024, Cabinet committed to work closely with the community to explore exactly how the services and activities programme would develop at The Coro and turn this into reality.
The council now has an opportunity to secure more funding for The Coro project, with potential funding of up to £3.2million from the National Heritage Lottery Fund (NHLF), to add to the estimated £2million investment initially identified by Westmorland and Furness Council and £500k from Borderlands Place Programme.
This would enable a more ambitious programme. In addition to housing the library, this could enable the venue to further develop its role as a cultural venue and community hub.
We are now preparing to invite all residents, Coro users, community representatives and other key stakeholders to co-create the future for The Coro.
A survey will shortly be launched for everyone to be able to contribute their thoughts and ideas, alongside a series of events, briefings and workshops will be held with stakeholders including the Town Council, the Ulverston BID, local councillors, cultural organisations, voluntary and community groups.
This next phase of engagement will run from early September to mid-October. More more details about how to take part released near the launch.
