Course Description
Come and make a set of personalised wrapping paper, a gift tag, and cards using a lino cutting technique. You will explore making repeat patterns and the use of registration methods. After your image has been drawn onto the lino you will remove some areas using lino cutting tools and leave the other bits.

The lino will then be inked and the image transferred onto your blank paper (burnishing), tag and cards (printing press). Cutting the lino safely will be demonstrated followed by the application of the ink onto the lino. All tools, materials and equipment are provided. Bring a picture and/or a drawing of your idea. We will be working on A6 (10×15 cms) lino and it is important that the image will fill the whole of the lino block. All you need is an apron and an idea.

What you will learn
The process of cutting a design onto a block of lino.
Safe use of tools.
Planning a design for a specific purpose.
Inking and transferring the image onto another surface.
How to register your prints before printing.

Important information for workshop participants

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. If you are attending a full day workshop there will be time to go into Ulverston for lunch, or you may like to bring a packed lunch with you. On Saturday and Sunday the Printfest Vintage Bakes café at The Coro will be open for lunches and other refreshments.

Please bring an apron or wear old clothes – printmaking can be messy!

Before attending it would be helpful to have a think about what images you would like to produce and bring along some sources of inspiration. If you are struggling to think of ideas your tutor will be able to help and will have some source materials you can use at the workshop.

You are also entitled to free entry to the main exhibition (Saturday & Sunday).

Your tutor:
A retired art teacher at secondary level, Kath spends most of her time, now, in her studio making art in one form or another, including a number of print-making techniques. She tends to work in a range of subject areas including landscape, still life and portraiture. When printing she works in reduction linocut, a process where colours are printed in layers using one piece of lino. Recently her work has been mixed media based using print-making as a starting point. What interests her as much as the image created is the process used to create it. However, as always, when the paper is about to be lifted, there is anticipation, and then the moment of surprise and delight as the image is revealed.
