Anne Desmet, Printmaker of the Year and Printmakers’ Printmaker, Aga Kubish, share insights into their work and inspiration, expressing a deep appreciation for the creative process.

Anne Desmet RA RE specialises in wood engraving, linocut, lithography, digital prints and mixed media printed collage. As Printmaker of the Year, Anne has visited Ulverston and produced a series of original prints based on her time in the area. Anne presents our urban environment in unexpected and surprising ways to suggest the timeless solidity, human aspiration, humour, hubris and folly that architectural forms can covey, as well as their impermanence and vulnerability.

Aga Kubish is a fine artist and printmaker based in Somerset. She works across drawing, printmaking, photography and artist’s books, with a strong focus on process-led and sequential practices. Aga discovered printmaking in 2021 and it has since become a central part of her practice informed by the visual language of historical engravings and print traditions. She often works with black ink, dense line structures and extended manual processes, allowing images to to emerge gradually through repetition and accumulation.
